Lens Technology Is Evolving

Lens technology is evolving at Eyevex

It's easy to get comfortable with the knowledge and technology you have in place while doing business every day. However, it's critical during these times of change- especially in our industry- to stay up-to-date with what's new and on the horizon. This is true not only for your personal knowledge but also for your company's products and services as well. The following are five instances where lens technology has evolved over the past few years that should be monitored closely moving forward into 2022:

1) 3D Printing

3D printing is currently revolutionizing many aspects of the world, including our everyday lives. With 3D printed products becoming more accurate and versatile than ever before, it was just a matter of time until they found their way into the welding industry. Although to date there are still few solutions for this type of technology available on the market, it's important to watch closely what types of developments come along in 2022 so you can be ahead of your competition.

2) Welding Deposition

Although taking 3D printing one step further by applying this technology to welding deposition may seem like uncharted territory- it has actually been around for several years now. The key difference here however is that while 3D printing typically uses plastic or metal, welding deposition uses wire fed into an arc to deposit material onto your product (a wire feeder must be used). While this technology certainly has limitations right now, it's certainly something to keep an eye on throughout 2022.

3) Smart Glasses

Ever since Google unveiled their smart glasses several years ago- the world hasn't been the same. While these types of technologies are still far from perfect - they have opened up possibilities that were only available in movies just a few short years ago. Although these products are not yet widely available for purchase, they certainly show great promise and can be expected to hit the market in force during 2022.

4) HD Video

Holding your phone up while you're welding has always been somewhat of a difficult task (and quite dangerous if not done correctly). However, with smart glasses that have built-in cameras - users are now able to capture their surroundings during each weld along with high definition video. And since many product designs now require this type of documentation for future reference, it's critical that users understand how to properly utilize these functionalities moving forward into the year. After all, there is no better way to learn than from looking back at your own footage!

5) Sensor Technology

Although taking measurements on site has typically involved laser or other types of conventional technology- this is no longer the case. And while it may seem hard to believe that one of the most basic elements of welding safety has evolved within the past few years, this is actually true if you've never heard of Sensor Technology before. This system uses ultrasonic sensor technology to automatically take measurements on-site and feed them directly into your tablet or computer. And since no welding work can be done without the proper documentation required throughout every step, it's certainly key for users to understand how these products can streamline their process moving forward into 2022 and beyond!

While there are many more new innovations coming along in our industry than what I've listed above - these are definitely the top five worth keeping an eye on over the next year or so. And some of these technologies are being used at Eyevex Safety, it's certainly worth mentioning that we're here to help you by answering your questions and providing support whenever possible.
